Causes of Anxiety

Anxiety is of the most (if not the most) common mental disorder, and like depression, it is often very hard to treat.

The best way would be to discover the cause and then determine which tactic could give the best result when it comes to treatment. If anxiety disorder is linked to some traumatic event that happened in the past that should be considered when it comes to planning the right treatment.

These are the most common causes of anxiety disorders:

1. Genetics. This disorder (like depression) often runs in family. In most cases there is one or few family members in every (or almost every) generation that have the symptoms of some type of anxiety disorder. It is also possible that anxiety could be "learned behavior" if both or one of the parents who raise the child express certain amount of anxiety in everyday situation (for example, reacting overly dramatic and with panic when it comes to not so important everyday events).

2. Brain circuits functions. Functioning of brain circuits can be changed due to exposure of certain amounts of stress, especially if that stress lasts for a long time and has it's patterns of occurring (problems in family, domestic violence, verbal abuse, mobbing, conflicts at the workplace or school). Of course, some events may trigger the disorder in some people with genetic predisposition to develop anxiety, so (just like in depression) that is the reason why some events trigger the anxiety in some individuals, and same events do not trig it in other individuals.

There are many types of anxiety disorders, so all of them might have different common causes and treatment tactics.
